Equally fascinated and confused by human culture, which they fantasize about becoming a part of; until then, they are a forest-dwelling recluse. ♥ This can vary broadly, from being strict to the physique seen in Gardevoir in canon to taking very heavy creative liberties and anything in between. His physique can fluctuate across this spectrum due to things like consuming a lot of high caloric human food (especially likely in any AUs in which he is a member of society instead of a recluse.) or hormones (getting thicker thighs or developing breasts during heat, for example). Those unfamiliar with his species biology are likely to mistake him as female no matter what, but the more pronounced the secondary femine sexual characteristics, the more likely that is.

BACKGROUND

Originally from Sinnoh, specifically Canalave City. As a child they were weak even by Ralts standards, so they sought shelter out of the wilds in the Canalave Library, where they eventually learned to read and read a lot of books in secret. This taught them a lot about the world, but certain things (romance stories, fairy tales) skewed their perception of humans.

Growing up as a 'wild' Pokemon but not in the wild, they never felt they belonged. They had no interest in the wild and wished to become part of human society, but as a person, not a Pokemon. Being caught and trained did not appeal to them. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done.

Eventually, upon becoming a Gardevoir, they had a growth spurt and became an alpha, ending up as tall and strong as they were small and weak as a Ralts. This had the downside of making it more difficult to sneak around humans without having to constantly utilize their psychic powers. It also had the downside of making their empathic powers so strong that the cacophony of human thoughts were troublesome, especially the ones directed towards them.

Eventually, they leave the city and go into the wild, but inadvertently domesticating themselves made this difficult. They eventually found an abandoned cabin to make into their new home, acting more like a human than a Pokemon even when alone.

IDEAS

The obligatory option for the setting to be the typical Pokemon world.

♥ The obvious option: Anya is another character's Pokemon. They could have been together since they were young, so they are like family, or Anya was caught relatively recently.

♥ The other character does not need to be Anya's trainer or even a trainer at all. This lends itself to scenarios in which Anya is a recluse in the forest.

Non-Pokemon fantasy settings.

♥ I can easily AU Anya into any setting where monsters or fairies can fit.

Pokemon are people

♥ A setting where Pokemon (or more generically, 'monsters') live side by side with humans, sort of like a Bojack Horseman setting.

♥ Anya will definitely be more relaxed and outgoing given the wildly different background and setting.

♥ Anya would also possibly identify as non-binary or trans in this setting, because there would not be a massive gap between something as alien as Anya and human society.
